Throughout the Spring ‘22 semester, one of the courses I took was run by Telemundo Academy and Professor Moore of the journalism department.
The goal was to pitch and create a video project centered around the FIFA 2022 World Cup. This World Cup is unique because it is being held during winter instead of the summer. This is because Qatar is the host this year and the heat during the summer is too intense.
For this project, I teamed up with three other students.
Our goal?
To showcase what the sport means to members of the athletic department at York College.
We interviewed Carl Christian, the athletic director of York. Our next interviewee was Ahmed Elgendy, the goalie of York’s Men’s Soccer team. Then there was Melanie Guerrero, the center forward for York’s Women’s Soccer team. We also interviewed the captain of the men’s team, George Molina. Finally, we interviewed Amy O’Connor, the head athletic trainer.
Each person spoke about several aspects of the sport. These include what soccer means to them, their favorite team in the World Cup, how they will be watching the game and their favorite memory of soccer.
Our equipment consisted of an iPhone, tripod, Lavalier mic, and an Addidas football for this project. Everything was edited using Premiere Pro and After Effects.
This project was not selected to be picked up by Telemundo.
But without further ado, please enjoy ‘Soccer is Life!’
